My dad was studying in England when my mom was pregnant with me. On a late Saturday evening my mom went into labor. However, my parents did not own a phone as it was too expensive back then and so my dad rushed out to find a telephone. (my parents were given a number to call for the doctor and the ambulance would come pick us up) He went in search of a pay phone on the street and came to one until he remembered he had no money on him. However, a bar was open and so he rushed right in. My dad is a very small man and is not a drinker at all, so you can imagine the look on the biker's faces when he went in. A very nice man gave my dad some coins to use the pay phone.
To this day my dad never lets me forget the random act of kindness this gentleman did for me. Who knows where I would have been born!

at my high school prom, i went with the girl of my dreams. it was nearing the end of the night, i went out to the lobby to take a break but came back to look for her as the last song was coming up. i found her just before it started. i still remember the song, it was 'lady in red'. the night ended perfectly.

There was a time in Internet history where money and free stuff flowed like milk and honey. The "dot com bubble" they call it. Free stuff here, money for doing next to nothing; you got money just for surfing the web. There was one company, AllAdvantage, which paid around $0.50/hour as long as you displayed some ads at the bottom of your page.
Quick search (this was before they called it "googling" and Yahoo! was king) on the Internet revealed programs that would simulate web surfing. Instant free money for doing nothing.
Maybe this is why the dot com bubble popped. Too much money being thrown around for ideas that simply weren't profitable.

The worse days in college were the ones where I stayed up late cramming for midterms and exams and assignments. There was once where I didn't start an assignment worth 10% of my final grade until the evening before. I didn't go to bed until 6AM. Looking back it would have been an absolute disaster if I had not been able to complete it.

During my freshman year of college, I met two amazing guys who were best friends from high school. I started dating one of them, and the other became one of my closest friends. When the one broke up with me, I was incredibly hurt, and really needed to talk to someone. So I sent his best friend this long message on facebook telling him that I wanted to talk to him, but would understand if he didn't want to get in the middle of it. When he got home that night, he saw that I had left a message, but didn't read it. He simply called and asked if I wanted to talk.

a friend giving me his jacket on a windy night. a friend hand-washing my clothes for me. my sister surprising me with matching t-shirts for the two of us. a boy sending me packages on my birthday, christmas, and valentines day. my boss giving me a huge cookie cake for my birthday. a friend calling me every night to see how my day was. my mommy waking up early to make me breakfast. a restaurant manager giving me a gift card to return for another meal. a friend offering me his bed so i wouldn't have to sleep in his cold basement. a customer giving me a $5 tip for wrapping his purchase beautifully.

We met in 1st grade and liked each other on and off for years, but always at the wrong time. I had liked his best friend and he had liked my best friend. In 8th grade we finally became best friends and spent every minute of every day together. In 10th grade after 10 years of waiting, the timing seemed perfect - he was crushing on me and I was crushing on him. But I was moving away at the end of the year and I didn't want to be heartbroken so in the end I said no...

My jogging path is through a cemetery. Whenever I see a flower pot blown over by the wind, I stop to right it up.

One time when I was young the local movie theatre was giving out free tickets to "The Sandlot". Although we didn't have tickets, my mom brought me and my sister to the theatre anyway. For what reason, I didn't know cause I knew we didn't have any tickets. With pure luck, when we had arrived, there was a man giving away tickets cause he couldn't go. Lucky us! I wonder if my mom knew that was going to happen. Even though they were free, it was really nice of the stranger.

Every Valentine's in junior high, the school would do "bear hugs". In essence, they were little cards, photocopied multiple times onto deep-pink coloured pieces of paper which for the cost of $1, you could send to a valentine.
In grade 7, I received one of these. The delivery kid came to the door and started announcing names. The very last name that was called was mine. I was shocked -- SHOCKED. My name was called? I was then handed a little card. On the front was a stuffed bear holding a heart with the words "Bear Hug" underneath and a "To:" with my name proceeding it. Inside it was some generic message along the lines of "Happy Valentine's Day", but the important part was the line that said, "From:".
"Someone who thinks you're sweet".
To this day, I still don't know who it was.
